Hybrid,  PHEV or Electric - Which is best for you?

Hybrid

A hybrid powered car combines combustion (petrol or diesel) with an electric drivetrain.

The integration of this combination of petrol or diesel with electric is to achieve either better economy or performance, in some instances both!

Typically, Hybrid output is intended to produce power from the electric drivetrain at low speeds and for initial acceleration, as this greatly reduces emission output in built up areas with combustion power being delivered for higher speeds.

Another feature of Hybrid technology is that a generator is utilised which enables the combustion power to also recharge the electric energy packs.

Hybrid vehicles are more suited for users who cover longer journeys as they do not rely on charging points and are attractive for users who do not want to fully migrate to full electric power.

Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle - PHEV

Hybrid vehicles which have the capability of being charged via an external charging point are know as Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles or PHEV for short.

The advantages of being able to plug-in your PHEV is that CO2 emissions are reduced further as the combustion engine is not used for regenerating all of the energy required to charge the electric power source, this also increases petrol or diesel fuel efficiency.

The cost to charge the electric fuel cells is typically less than the associated costs from the combustion engine.

Also, as with self sufficient hybrids, use is made of of efficiency-improving technologies such as regenerative brakes which convert the vehicle's kinetic energy to electric energy.

Fully Electric - EV

Power entirely by either one or a number of electric motors, EVs do not use any additional type of engine for propulsion.

Recharging is enabled through the use of extremal power sources which are located in an ever growing list public locations such as motorway services, car parks, hotels etc, also users choose to have their own personal charging points installed at their office and also their homes.

With Zero CO2 emissions EVs are very environmentally friendly and growing more popular as their range is increasing, circa 250+ miles from a full charge is now adequate for most users and with recharge times decreasing and charge point locations increasing each week - Electric vehicles growing in popularity. Typically service and maintenance costs are far lower.

Why business users choose Green Car Leasing

Company car tax is payable for all users who have a vehicle provided as part of their employment package.

HMRC set the rate of tax which is known as Benefit in Kind (BiK) based on the vehicle manufactures P11D value which is multiplied by a percentile determined by the COs emission band, this is measured by grams emitted per Kilometer (G/Km).

Therefore the lower the emission the lower the band and therefore the lower the tax paid by the user who has the benefit of the vehicle - hence Hybrids, PHEVs, EVs are attractive for company car users.
